Temple of the Tooth Relic
The Sri Dalada Maligawa is the most sacred Buddhist site in Sri Lanka. The golden-roofed temple complex houses the relic of the Buddha's tooth, brought to the island in the 4th century AD. Daily puja ceremonies fill the air with drumming and the scent of incense, offering visitors a deeply moving spiritual experience.
Kandy Lake & City Walks
The artificial Kandy Lake, built in 1807 by the last Kandyan king, sits at the heart of the city. A scenic walkway circles the lake, passing the cloud wall, the island pavilion, and views of the temple. The surrounding streets are lined with gem shops, spice stalls, and colonial-era buildings perfect for an afternoon stroll.
Esala Perahera Festival
Held every August, the Esala Perahera is one of Asia's grandest festivals. For ten nights, elaborately decorated elephants, Kandyan dancers, fire-breathers, and drummers parade through the city streets. The procession culminates with the sacred tooth relic being carried on the back of the Maligawa Tusker — a spectacle unlike any other.
